Fire Hose Games is Changing The Way Games Are Made

“Making video games is expensive.”

Eitan Glinert – Founder – Fire Hose Games

Truer words were never spoken. Game development is expensive regardless of whether you’re an 800-pound gorilla like Electronic Arts or Activision or if you’re the scrappy upstart like Fire Hose Games.  But Fire Hose Games is approaching it differently.  An approach that could pay off big for the Boston-based studio.

Check out this behind-the-scenes video to hear their story in their own words as well as get a glimpse of some of the projects they have in development.

“Smaller teams, all working on their projects, but at the same time helping each other trying to come up with good games.” – Eitan Glinert

This approach to business may not be completely new. Larger developers like those mentioned above work similarly. That’s how a company like Ubisoft can release games like WATCH_DOGS, Assassin’s Creed or Just Dance – because of the focused development-studios part of the company. But when you look at independent game development, this is a definite shift in how most studios are setup. They’re able to take their studio of 20 and collaborate on projects that can be released at different times and cater to different types of gamers.

Catlateral Damage – The Purr-fect Game
Chris Chung was one of the first developers to take part in Fire Hose Game’s Incubator Program and the result was something inspired by his favorite feline, Nippy, called Catlateral Damage. The premise of the game is simple – destroy as much as you can from the cat’s perspective in the allotted time. Seems easy enough, right?  Well you can see for yourself as this game was successfully funded on Kickstarter (demo available).  Anyone who’s owned a cat can easily relate to this experience but doing so from the cat’s point of view changes everything.  Watch the video below to learn more about Catlateral Damage.

Want more? No problem.  Something else interesting Fire Hose Games is doing are their regular Live Streams. What started as an interesting way to showcase their own games, the live streams quickly evolved to an interview show about other developers.  These features have become a great way to showcase other creative talents and projects as well as keep the spirit of independent game development alive and well. Watch the clip and learn.

Gaming development is more than just a process; it’s also a community. Fire Hose Games is not only changing the way games are made, but also changing how games get featured and in doing so, making the development process something less mysterious and more inviting and welcoming for everyone.
