Nintendo Wins…or Do They?

Tis the season to be a gamer, fa-la-la-la-la, well, you know the rest. Video games make great presents this time of year. While they aren’t “cheap”, thanks to the Nintendo Wii U™ or Kinect for Xbox 360™, they make for great family entertainment.

There’s someone special in my life that’ll be getting his first Nintendo DS this holiday season and based on some of the stats below in this infographic by MBAOnline, I won’t be the only parent paying tribute to the plumber this year.

This Nintendo focused list of stats had some interesting ones that needed calling out.

  • More US households own a Nintendo Wii (38%) than a cat (33%)
  • Nintendo has 75% of the portable video game market
  • The Mario series has sold 5X more games than Sonic with 450M vs. 85M.

Nintendo has dominated the console market with its release of the Nintendo Wii in 2010 and shows no signs of slowing down.

With 2013 on the horizon, it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll be able to retain the crown as the gaming community looks to the eventual releases of the next systems for Xbox and PlayStation.  But in the meantime, check out the full stats below to see how Nintendo wins.
