Stan Lee – A Lifetime Achievement Award for Creativity…and being a Geek

At the first annual The Geekie Awards (brought to you by Seagate!), Stan Lee accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented by fellow geek, Seth Green.

Let that sink in a moment – Lifetime Achievement Award.

There are a lot of wonderful things people have done throughout their lives in fields of medicine, science, athletics or the arts. But I’d be hard pressed to find many who can honestly say they have influenced millions with their creativity the way Stan Lee has.

At 90 years old, you can look back at the origin of his career from the early days at Timely Comics in the 1940’s to the creation of the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and countless others in the Marvel Universe during the 1960’s. Jump forward to present day where he is now the Founder and CCO of Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment where he works to develop television, animations, film and publishing projects.

With all this experience and history, is it no wonder he received the Lifetime Achievement Award?

Having the opportunity to have met Stan in person, he’s exactly what you’d imagine – smart, charismatic, yet humble and modest. He’s as much a celebrity as he is the “everyman” and every conversation you have feels like it’s with an old friend you’ve known your entire life. And given how long I’ve been reading comics, it feels like I have known him my entire life because the creative tone he established 70 years ago still exists today.

Congratulations, Stan, on being the quintessential “geek” and inspiring millions of writers, artists, filmmakers, photographers and every other creative professional for years to come.

Watch our interview with Stan Lee!

The great Stan Lee sat down with us at his POW! Entertainment offices. His straight-talking advice for young writers and artists — how to stay genuine, how to structure a story from scratch — is priceless. He reflects on where he found ideas for his iconic Marvel characters like Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and how classic books like Sherlock Holmes and the Scarlet Pimpernel and authors like Jules Verne, Victor Hugo and Charles Dickens inspired his heroes and stories.
