The 4th of July – Then and Now

Around the world, the 4th of July may be just another day on the calendar, but around these parts, it’s kind of a big deal. You know, celebrating the independence of a nation, and all.

But what’s interesting about being able to be in a place where information can be preserved to be analyzed at a later date is that we can look at how things were back in 1776 and how they compare today. It’s like when you hear the “old timers” start a sentence off with “back in my day…”

There are some interesting stats here courtesy of our friends at CheapOair, including travel times & distances, origins of potatoes (for potato chips, of course) and my favorite – the number of American flags that were imported last year.

Why do American flags have to be imported anyway? Talk about irony.
