Choose Turbo speed and Seagate will provide the safety net

The word “turbo” is synonymous with speed when it comes to cars…and, now, for hard drives too.  The only difference is that “turbo” drives also include an added service plan to provide protection for your data.

Seagate’s GoFlex Turbo Performance drives live up to their name in terms of the specs: 7200 RPM and USB 3.0 interface, but little did you know that these Seagate drives are the first to offer SafetyNet™ Data Recovery Services. Should some unforseen tragedy happen to your data and you lose a file, or the entire contents of the drive, Seagate SafetyNet data recovery services will make a best attempt to get your data restored and returned to you. Limited to 1 free data recovery service per drive for 2 years since the day of purchase. This added feature carries a $20.00 premium over standard GoFlex portable drives, so that’s not half bad when you consider the potentially high costs of data recovery, which often reaches into the thousands of dollars for in-lab recovery. In fact, Seagate offers a do-it-yourself data recovery software package for $99.00, so the $20.00 premium sounds like a good deal. Frequently asked questions and terms and conditions of the SafetyNet service can be viewed here.

This begs the question, would bundling a service like SafetyNet with Seagate internal drives be something do-it-yourself consumers would be interested in?

Including 2 years of data recovery as an option with every drive sold may provide the additional layer of protection that consumers seek for the valuable information they store on the drive.  Of course, nothing replaces a solid backup procedure, but data recovery is something above and beyond backup that provides an additional peace of mind for the digital treasures we save to our drives. Because, when it comes to data recovery, it’s something we never plan for, nor expect to need, but in the event we do, SafetyNet takes the pain out of losing a file.

Knock on wood, I have never needed data recovery services, but the thought of me losing my 6-year old Barracuda drive is painful.

Would you consider purchasing  2 years of peace of mind for $20.00? I certainly would.

They are available today at Best Buy…check em out.
