Friday Just for Fun: Be Kind and Rewind

VHS tapes…what memories I have of heading to the local video rental shop.  The process for renting a movie was much more involved.  First, you had to physically go to your local video rental shop (before the big chains were around), walk up and down the aisles looking for a movie hoping that little paper tag with handwritten movie title and ID number was in front of the empty movie box.  Take the tag to the counter where the clerk would scour shelves of movies behind them to find the right film. Of course they would open the plastic black box to make sure it was the right movie and that it  was rewound. Oh the days…

Funny that $49.95 was a deal back then.  I’m guessing mid-late 1980s…Compare $49.95 with what the likes of Blockbuster are blowing DVD and Blu-ray disks out for these days – anywhere from $.99 to $15.00 for newer releases. With the advent of digital downloads, deals like this are going to be few and far between.  I mean, it’s not like Apple or Amazon need to clear shelf space on their servers.  All they need to do is hit delete.

What is your fondest memory of old-school video rentals?
