PCs have entered the Content Era

Office Depot’s Sunday newspaper insert highlighted each of their notebooks on sale with large-font text centered on each notebook’s monitor, each with these three specifications:

  • Screen: 19″
  • Memory: 6 GB
  • Hard Drive: 500 GB, etc.

These words were even more prominent than the notebook brand (HP, Toshiba and eMachines).

The Content Era of PCs

This is evidence that PCs have left the Processor Era and entered the Content Era.  It’s all about the content now – how well we can view it (monitor size), move it through our PC (memory), or store it (hard drive).

To be fair, next to each notebook photo was  a fancy Intel or AMD logo.  Beautiful, but off to the side.  Are they there for informational or contractual reasons?  Probably both.

What’s more important for your next PC – the processor or the storage?

I’d love to hear what you think.

Definitely storage, as my next PC is going to be a home theater PC with DVR abilities.

    I’d love to see a 19″ laptop!

    Sorry, just being me!
