Pool movie night party

For the past decade and more, we’ve been spoiled with one blockbuster after another, from The Lord of the Rings to the new Star Trek and Star Wars films, over several X-Men and every single Marvel movie, with some excellent animation movies such as Frozen and Inside Out for the kids on top. Excellent material to watch on a relaxing summer evening. Except for one significant detail: nobody feels like lounging inside on sultry summer night.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have an outdoor cinema so you can create the drive-in movie experience in your own backyard? Or on the camping abroad, or even on a festival? It could happen, if you follow the advice below.

How to make your own outdoor theater

Seagate Wireless PlusWhat you need:

  • A smartphone
  • A wireless drive, such as Seagate Wireless Plus
  • A pico projector
  • A Bluetooth speaker
  • And a power bank, if possible, just to be on the safe side

Now let’s get started!

Around sunset you can start looking for a suitable surface to project onto. If you don’t have a regular projection screen, you might want to use a white wall or your tent’s canvas. When you have found the best location for your cinema, the hardest part is already over!

Setting up your outdoor cinema is a piece of cake, really. The Seagate Wireless is the central part of your configuration. It will serve as your video library. Switch on the wifi connection, connect to your smartphone, and the easy-to-use Seagate Media app grants you access to all media files on your hard drive.

Connect your smartphone to a pico projector

Next, you will need to connect your smartphone to a pico projector. This is a beamer which is not much bigger than a cigar box. Connectivity is the most important feature of such projector, so do make sure that it connects to your smartphone. Normally a USB port on the beamer should do the trick but we advise you to check with the store salesperson anyway.

If you manage to make this connection as well, all that’s left to take care of is the sound. Your pico projector may feature a small speaker too, but usually the sound quality is rather limited. This problem can easily be solved by using a Bluetooth speaker. This more advanced sound quality will allow you and your friend to hear every spoken word as well as every loud explosion.

The perfect outdoor cinema experience

Now bring on the snacks and drinks, and you are fully equipped for a perfect outdoor cinema experience! All the above devices are battery-charged, so you don’t have to look for an electricity plug. The Seagate Wireless Plus’s battery will even last you up to ten hours, but the other devices may not last as long. So make sure to provide one or more power banks if you plan to organize a genuine movie marathon!
