Hewlett-Packard recently announced that Hollywood studio DreamWorks Animation SKG plans to integrate HP Cloud Services with a global cloud storage system from Panzura to create a hybrid platform designed for its teams to collaborate worldwide. The project goes beyond basic cloud storage by integrating the organization's existing infrastructure and allowing for rapid information sharing. The overall goal of the system will be to enhance collaboration among the studio's worldwide teams.
The studio intends to use Panzura’s Global Cloud Storage System to bring the features of network-attached storage to the cloud. The solution's other features include active archiving and robust, tapeless data protection plus disaster recovery. The cloud infrastructure will be a hybrid model that utilizes HP's Cloud services to draw on both the public cloud and Dreamwork's existing infrastructure.
“HP Cloud Services integrated with the Panzura Global Cloud Storage System will enable DreamWorks to undertake ‘follow-the-sun’ content production through a robust, global network that ties together our distributed teams,” said Derek Chan, head of technology global operations at DreamWorks Animation. “In addition, the massively scalable low-cost tier of storage provides a platform for archiving reusable content in a central repository, while offering inherent data protection that eliminates the need for tape backup and stringent disaster-recovery planning.”
HP's Converged Cloud approach
HP calls its approach to cloud storage and services the "Converged Cloud," which is designed to give enterprises options for adding agility without sacrificing control over their technology. According to HP, the model allows companies to build a common infrastructure across managed and public clouds, as well as on-premise systems.
The Converged Cloud allows enterprises to "[b]uild, manage, and secure a hybrid environment to reap value and mitigate risk, across all models, using integrated solutions such as HP CloudSystem and industry leading components including IT Performance Suite, or Converged Infrastructure," according to HP.
