Creating content on the iPad…it’s all at your fingertips

Way back in November 2010, I said, “tablets like the iPad are being used primarily as communication devices for email, social media, etc….” I also have asserted that tablets are, by in large, content consumption devices. They just don’t have the storage needed to be true content creation devices like the good old hard drive based PC.

I maybe right, but I can also admit when I am wrong…at least a trend towards tablet and smartphone content creation is apparent.

Evidence shows that developers are consistently driving apps that extend tablets and even smartphones beyond pure entertainment and communication devices. Take for instance, Billaboop Studio’s CamBox released last week for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  I haven’t tried it yet (plan to download tonight), but it’s getting some good user reviews already:

  • “Turn Your Friends’ Irritating Catchphrases Into a Beatboxing Loop of Hell” Kat Hannaford, Gizmodo
  • “CamBox for iOS turns you into an awesome beatboxing machine” Matt Brian, The Next Web
  • “An awesome creation app that is worth checking out.” AppAdvice.com

Billaboop Studio’s CamBox is just one example.  Check out these cool artists that are doing some amazing things on the iPad – content creation-wise. My favorite:

It’s no doubt that hard drives are needed to create and distribute content, and will be for a very long time, sometimes 64GB is enough to do some pretty cool stuff — at least to start

Let’s face it, creativity is all at your fingertips.

What are you creating?
