What are your most important files?

.

When it comes to the files we store, we always play favorites. If you ask ten people, I would guess 9 of them would list family photos at or near the top. But, what else?

Rimage asked that very question of both corporate executives and consumers and found some striking similarities.  According to this StorageNewsletter.com post, “Interestingly, executives’ demands at the company mirror those they are implementing at home. Fully 9 out of 10 executives (89.5%) say they plan to keep their digital family photos for life, with 62.9% saying the same of their medical records.”

Whether you are in your corporate role or consumer role, you fear data loss, some types more than others.  Financial records, medical records, legal documents and company secrets topped the list for executives.

That list would not differ to much from my own.

  1. Photos
  2. Music
  3. Financial records
  4. Medical records
  5. Insurance records

Interesting that I automatically listed family photos and my music collection above financial, medical, and insurance records.  That tells me that I am more concerned about files I have an emotional connection to.  Sorry, I’m just not that emotionally connected to my bank statements, or insurance claims. Are you?  Plus, my bank and my insurance company, even my doctor has copies for me – typically online anyway.  I am more concerned about data leakage than data loss in these areas.
