Android vs. Apple – Not Exactly the “Thrilla in Manila”

According to this Bloomberg article, Android is winning the market share war against Apple.

Recent stats are showing that Android captured 72% of the worldwide market share in the mobile space while Apple took only 14%. (Seems no one is concerned about Blackberry or Windows.)

What Google is citing as one of the reasons for their growth success is that while the company doesn’t make any money on hardware the way Apple does, the widespread use of the OS allows the company to generate revenue from ad sales.  Pretty smart.

Though I can’t help but wonder how much bluster can you really make about your market share when your device output is so varied.  I’m a Verizon user myself, and on this network alone there are 28 phones on the Android OS versus the 1 on iOS. With this ratio, is it any wonder that Google can brag about winning the mobile wars?

What’s your preferred phone operating system – Android, iPhone or “other”?
