E3 2013 – The Story Behind the Game

Storytelling is a very important component for a video game. Over the years, games have evolved from controlling a speedy blue hedgehog that has a penchant for jewelry to grandiose tales of soldiers fighting to save their planets from invasion. A great story is what drives a player to want to see a game to completion to know the fate of a character he’s invested time in, developed and cultivated.

If there is one thing many of the games at E3 are showcasing this year, it’s a great story. Ubisoft has some stellar titles on the way with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag leading the charge as well as other titles you’ll want to keep an eye on including Watchdogs and The Division.  Both have character so life-like and authentic, you’ll forget you’re playing a game.

Titanfall is another game focusing on “mech-based”combat (think big robots) allowing you to seamlessly switch from being inside your mech to being on foot.  But the war-torn future aside, the notion of being a freedom fighter working to protect and preserve your way of life is a cause we can all get behind.

Whether it’s through art, music, animation or story, the creativity behind the games featured at E3 is nothing short of amazing. With two new consoles (three, if you include Ouya) and a strong launch lineup, it’s a great time to be a gamer.
