Gaming with my Xbox360 – It’s part of my job.

As a Marketing Manager on Seagate’s Consumer Electronics storage team, I have a duty (sounds virtuous doesn’t it?) to know the markets that we serve. That’s the story I used with my wife to explain my purchase of an Xbox 360 and few of the latest fifty-dollars-a-pop games to go with it. Not to mention, the wireless networking adaptor, and extra wireless controller and, oh yea, I had to have the system with the 120GB hard drive.  It’s my business! “This is job security honey!”

I’ve never really been a big gamer, but since having my Xbox360 (for about 3 years now) I’ve discovered a few things….

1. I get nauseous if I play Call of Duty 3 for more that about 30 minutes.

2. Being good at Rock Band has absolutely nothing to do with ones true competence as a musician. (It really irritates me that my daughter can beat me on the guitar when I’ve played a real one for many years!)

3. The best part of the gaming experience is the social aspect of playing with other people.

I was actually a bit concerned about getting a game console and the potential negative impacts it might have on my family, aka – me or the kids – solitary game junkies in the darkness of our basement. As it turns out, none of us really got hooked on gaming outside of playing with friends and family. So I’m going to spend a few blog entries talking about the different ways to use your game console in social and multi-player venues…where I find there is the most reward.
