Gearing Up for the Consumer Electronics Show

The holidays are just a memory now. After the five-minute water cooler conversation about the break, I took a quick look at my schedule for today to see how many meetings I have in the next few days about the Consumer Electronics Show, which starts January 8th.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine recently who knows I’m attending the show who asked me how I prepare for CES and what is it I’ll be doing.  Since I’m a trained professional for such events, it was an easy answer. If you’re going, you may want to jot down some of these tips as well.

  1. Build up your immune system.  CES will have ~ 150K people attending.  That’s a lot of bodies. This isn’t including anyone who just happens to be in/around Las Vegas during that week. So bring sanitizer and lots of Vitamin-C. And a can of Red Bull or a 5-hour ENERGY shot won’t hurt either.
  2. Bring comfortable shoes. This is one of those “I-love-being-a-guy” perks because women of the industry who have to wear heels all day have my deepest sympathies. Given the amount of walking I’ll be doing, making sure you’ve got the gear for it is essential.
  3. Remember the essentials. Batteries, chargers, cables, memory sticks, etc. I wish I had a backup mophie because I know I’ll burn a lot of juice for my smartphone & laptop.

So what does a Social Media guy do at CES? Last year, I kept pretty busy taking photos and blogging about the show as well as many of the companies present such as Sony, Samsung, LG Electronics, Cambridge Audio, HP and many, many more.  My goal is always to talk about industry trends, “hot” products and bring the show “home” to those who can’t attend, so be sure to watch this space as news and photos will come in fast and furious.

We’ll also be pairing up with The Gamer Access similar to what we did last year at the PAX East show. We’ll be producing a slew of videos that we’ll host on our social channels for you to check out as well.  We’re excited to be working with them again for the show.

And did I mention we’re throwing a promotion during the show? Guess I just did. Be sure to check our Facebook page for the #TakeWhatsYours sweepstakes for a chance to win an iPad Mini and a Seagate hard drive.
