The Purity of Data

I hate working out.

It’s not so much the workout itself, but it’s the mental and physical preparation that goes into working out.  But once I’m in the gym, I’m on fire — in my head anyway. I won’t be cast in a Gatorade commercial, but I can hold my own. I like that a good workout represents the quintessential battle of man versus machine with the winner being based upon on how you feel the next day.

And during that cool down when you’re lost in your thoughts riding the wave of exhilaration, you can’t help but smile as you survey the carnage of the handiwork you’re leaving behind. There is something amazing about that feeling. Something…pure.

Data is the same way. Obviously I do a great deal of writing and my Flickr and Facebook accounts are full of photos.  I also have my music at the ready for when I’m on the go. But when you break that down to bytes and pixels, and just look at it as raw data, you realize that it has the same purity. It has a similar simplistic essence of something that you want to hold onto and preserve.

This makes backing up your data so important. I’ve heard the horror stories from people who lost all their data because they didn’t back up their systems. Being a storage company, we have a number of data services available to help give you peace of mind in case you forget to back it up. And with products like Backup Plus or Seagate Slim, we’ve also made it super easy by giving you the power to schedule automatic backups.

Moral of the story? Don’t take chances with your data. Keep it safe. Keep it preserved. Keep it pure.
