There’s Speed and Then There’s SuperSpeed USB 3.0

In case you missed it, Apple announced earlier this year that MacBook Pro is now equipped with USB 3.0 ports. What does that mean to you? Well today Seagate made it known that our Backup Plus for MAC drive is now also equipped with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface.  Available from Amazon.com now and Apple Stores in late November, this cable will allow you to transfer data up to 10X that of USB 2.0.  Don’t try and act like this isn’t a big deal, it is because everyone wants to transfer their content faster so they keep moving.

This news from Seagate comes just in time as Apple is hosting another even scheduled for Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 23rd, which will include a number of announcements.  Much of which is speculated around the long rumored iPad Mini. Since the iPhone 5 has come (and gone) many expect that the iPad Mini will the big focus.

However, in scouring around the web (or in this case, water cooler conversation from fellow Apple-loving colleagues) there appear to be other happenings in the Apple-verse that may be revealed including:

  • Mac Mini – Why not announce an update to this product line since already talking about the iPad Mini?
  • Mac Pro – We’ve already been told that an update to this system was coming, so just open the kimono already on this system.
  • MacBook Pro – Retina display? Ok, cool. But aren’t you ready for more too?

It’s easy to speculate on what Apple will do next and everyone in the tech world will be watching – whether they want to or not.  And with Windows 8 launching on the 26th, it makes sense to wow the tech community in hopes of stealing some of Microsoft’s thunder.

It’s times like this where it feels good to be in the storage business because you know your products will be needed.  As cool as Windows 8 or new Apple products will be, storage will still be at the center because it’s the one feature you can’t live without.
